Frequently Asked Questions

Here you will find basic questions and answers. If you still need further assistance or have questions, please contact us.

What tuning options do I have?

There is a few options; we can do Remote Tuning, shipping you a tuned plug & play ecu, or you can ship us your ecu for tuning.
We are currently doing remote tuning services and allowing customers to send in their ECUs for tuning if needed.
If you need further accommodations, please contact us.

ALL vehicles in our Vehicle Supported List are supported via our Remote Tuning Services.

What ECU/DME do I have?

To make it simple, check our vehicle support list, there you can determine the ecu.
Most commonly, for the MS42,MS43, and MS45,x variants, you can tell what ecu you have based off your MAF Sensor and build date.
M52tu and M54 engines with 3 pin maf connector utilize MS42 and MS43 ecu.

M54 engines with a 5 pin MAF connector Utilize a 5 pin maf connector, these come in the build dates of 03/2003 (March 2003) for the E46 chassis.

E36s, Z3s, and early model E39s use the MS41.x family of ecus.

E46 M3s use the MSS54/MSS54HP ecu for their S54 engine.

E39 M5s use MSS52 for their S62B50.

E9x M3 use MSS60 and E6x M5/M6 use MSS65.

N52 325/330 use MSV70.
N52 328 use MSV80.0.
N51 328 use MSV80.1

How long does remote tuning take?

Return times to receive your tune/basemap after you follow your initial steps, is now about 3 business days. We try to cut this down to as little as possible. The overall time varies slightly based on demand at that given moment which is pretty high at the moment.
*Please note we are a small business operating at high volume/demand. Take into account weekends and outside business hours when we may not be working.*

Please do not spam our email inbox or social media regarding when you will receive your tune. We process all orders in order and as quickly as possible. If you send a double email asking when you will get your tune, it just delays when you will get a response as you get bumped up our email queue.

How does the remote tuning process work?

We support remote tuning for ALL the chassis in our vehicle support list. Upon purchasing your tune, you'll receive both an order confirmation email and a follow up email to begin the tuning process. This email will contain the download to our software and instructions. You can download our software directly on the order confirmation page after placing your order, or, by going to that second follow up email we send you. You should always refer to this email as it will have some other details you should know. With our software, we will then license and active the software to your ecu. Afterwards, with our software you will be able to download the stock file (or current file) off your ecu and email it to us. Afterwards, we will tune this file, and email it back for flashing back to your ecu.
You can also use our new Android mobile app (CCFlash Mobile) to do this instead of a windows laptop.

Once that is completed, you are done! Of course, we will provide you with simple, detailed step by step instructions; although the process is very straight forward. If you come across any issues, we offer full support so don't worry, we got your back.
When applicable, we will also conduct datalogging to dial in your vehicle as best as possible.

Why do remote tuning?

Remote tuning is the most reliable, flexible, and convenient way to tune. This process tunes the current ecu on your vehicle, which is essential for vehicles that require passing emissions. We truly enjoy remote tuning because of how flexible we can be. If there ever is an issue with a tune or you need a retune, update or just want some options changed, it is just as easy as receiving your new tune in your email and uploading it. We allow up to 3 customer requested minor retunes up to 2 weeks after purchase. Although this process, in most cases, requires a WINDOWS laptop, and K+DCAN OBD2 cable.
You can also use our Android Mobile app instead, CCFlash Mobile, which can be found on the Google Play Store (MS42, MS43, MS45 ECUs only).

What do I need for remote tuning?

For remote tuning, you will need a WINDOWS Laptop. Our software's do NOT work with any other operating system (i.e. MAC, Linux, Hypervisors etc.).
You can also use an Android device, using our our, CCFlash Mobile, which can be found on the Google Play Store.
You can use both our WINDOWS Software and Android app.

You will need to use a BMW K+DCAN INPA OBD2 Cable. It is common to find these cables for relatively cheap on amazon and ebay. Although we HIGHLY recommend our Chaos K+DCAN Cable: https://www.chaoscalibrations.com/store/CHAOS-BMW-K-DCAN-INPA-OBD2-USB-Cable-p410327542. If our cables happen to be put of stock, please message us! Although the generic cables found on amazon and ebay tend to work find for most applications, they often have buggy firmware, this can cause serious problems when it comes to flashing your ecu, especially ecus like MS45, MSS60, etc which is why we ALWAYS recommend our Chaos K+DCAN cable or another high quality cable using the latest firmware(which we do in-house) to cope with complex flash protocols and fast baud rates.

Android app requires OTG Adapter.

What software do I use for flashing to my ecu and datalogging?

In most cases, you will be using our own CCFlasher for all flashing, diagnostics, and datalogging. In some cases, there's other tools we can and may use, we'll let you know depending on your build if other tools and softwares are necessary.

For MS42, MS43, and MS45 ECUs, you can also use our Android Mobile App, CCFlash Mobile, which can be found on the Google Play Store.

When/How do I use your Android App, CCFlash Mobile?

Our PC Software is CCFlasher and CCFlasher Suite.

Our Android App is CCFlash Mobile.

CCFlash Mobile can only be used with tunes for MS42, MS43 and MS45 ECUs.
CCFlash Mobile can be used either on its own or in conjunction with our Windows PC Software(CCFlasher/CCFlasher Suite). Our mobile app functions the same way our Windows PC Software’s do, you can use both interchangeably or one or the other, it is totally up to you.

What is an ECU? What is a DME?

An ECU and DME are the same thing. ECU stands for electronic control unit. This is the brains of your vehicle/engine. It controls each and every parameter for engine operation.

What is a TCU?

A TCU is the same as ECU, but for your transmission. Transmission Control Module. We do not offer TCU tuning.

Why ship out or get a plug & play ECU/DME?

In all honesty, there aren't many pro's to this process. The only pro's we can come up with is if you want to maintain a spare ecu, or just can't get a hold of a laptop and some internet. Shipped ecus and plug and play ecus will cost an additional $50+shipping. These ecus (MS42 and MS43) have the immobilizer(EWS) disabled which allow for easy plug and play and swaps. They also will NOT have matching vins to your vehicle. Now for those that like it, we offer vin matching and virginized ECUs that can be re-synced to your cars immobilizer(EWS). This has to be done by you or someone locally. At that point though, you will have all the tools necessary for easy remote tuning.

What is EWS/Immobilizer?

This is the module and systems that checks to make sure you have the correct key to start your vehicle. The chip in the key communicates with the EWS module, if everything matches up, signal gets sent to your ECU which then starts your car. For most plug and play ecus, this feature is removed. The ECU will ignore this signal and start the vehicle when it sees ignition power. Disabling your immobilizer does NOT mean anyone can just unlock your car and run off with it. Locking and unlocking is handled by other modules. All other security and anti-theft systems function the same. If you don't like the idea of this, remote tuning is your friend.

My car has the old 20 pin round connector under the hood, what do I do?

Most of the time, using this round connector is not necessary, you can still use the previous cable mentioned and your obd2 port in the foot well. Although if you wish to use or need to use the 20 pin round connector, just use an adapter, like this one:

My car is not N/A, it has a supercharger, turbocharger, and/or nitrous, can you tune it?

Yes of course! We love tuning all sorts of builds. Most of our experience lies with the MS42, MS43, and MS45.0 and MS45.1 platform when it comes to forced induction, but please, do not hesitate to contact us if you have a build that needs tuning.

My e46 is a ZHP or utilizes the MS45.x ecu; I have been having so much trouble finding someone to tune it, can you tune it?

Yes of course! We have mastered the MS45 ecu like no other. We have mastered everything from perfectly sounding and customizable pops and bangs to all out forced induction tunes and everything in between. We are the first in the world to offer pops and bangs AND FLAMES for the MS45 application, and one of the few in the world offering reliable, fast, stock like forced induction tuning for MS45 platform.
